Under the watchful eye of a star filled night

In the glow of a full blue moon,

A wee fairy played a summer’s eve violin,

To the woodland creatures below.

“Tis a song of love,” whispered the birds to the bees,

“No ‘tis a jig” the fox replied.

And, they kicked up their heels

And, began to dance

To the music of the wee fairy.

The field mouse twirled the firefly

Over the thistle tops

While Mrs. Toad and Mr. Frog

Hopped to the jitterbug,

Tails and whiskers,

Ears and wings,

Pounding paws and swirling feet

Danced to the fairy’s jolly tune

Under the watchful eye of a star filled night

And, in the glow of a full blue moon.

“A waltz for the beetles,” the night owl hooted.

“For ‘tis a wedding they’ve had this day.”

And, with a nod of his head

The fairy eased his bow,

And, played a sweet serenade.

The doves wept as the beetles danced,

To the melodic strands of a summer’s eve violin

And, when the final note was played

All gave cheer, and clapped their wings

To the music of the wee fairy.

“And now for a lullaby,” the larks tweeted.

“To put end to the night,” the possums cried.

“A song to fill our dreams.”

In a flurry of notes,

The song floated up to the stars

And, the fairy followed after it,

Climbing up to that full blue moon,

And, with a tap of his bow, he popped it.

Sending a shower of moon dust down below.

“Tis magic,” whispered the birds to the bees.

“Tis the music of the moon,” the fox replied,

“Tis both,” the night owl hooted.

And, with paws and hands joined together,

The woodland creatures bowed low and deep

To the magic of the night,

And, the music of the wee fairy.

“Until we meet again!” he called down to them,

And, then with a wink and a nod…and a twirl of wings,

He leapt onto a shooting star,

And, with a final pluck of his violin’s strings,

Bid sweet dreams to one and all.
